Just remember at purchase time Scout won't be your only option there will be other offerings by then. Scout is going to be the shiny new thing but how many will
Pay a premium ? Do you by a Scout from a VW dealership for 80 k or go buy a CPO Rivian for 60k with extended range. Their not the only game in town Cost, Service , and relationships matter.

I've also wondered this about the EREV...

In my 4XE, the electric-only would be disabled due to it going into Fuel/Oil Refresh mode.
I know the Scout won't be able to completely disable running on the battery but will it go into a mode that requires the generator to run if it hasn't in a while?

If the battery lasts 150 miles on a charge and you only drive short distances per day, theoretically that generator wouldn't be needed but now months later you have a longer road trip...
If that engine hasn't kicked on in months and now it's needed, you're running old gas and oil that has been stagnant. I'm assuming that the software will require these generators to crank up whether they are needed due to battery charge status or not.

Good points, I have no first hand knowledge of this but I think you are probably on track with your thinking. They can't just let the gas sit in the car for a year.

That's why I think in 10 years people will look back and say, "You really thought it was a good idea to put both a gas and battery powertrain in a vehicle, what were you thinking?" And yes, I understand that's how trains work.

Full battery or full ICE makes the most sense to me. We can't even get ICE cars out there without a million recalls, even on some VERY once reliable brands. Now marry battery and ICE together? Hold my beer and watch this!

Wasn't the whole EV push initially sold as a bill of goods to save the planet? How on earth are we doing this now with all these hybrids, EREVs, more wires, more batteries, more computers, more coolant (both engine and battery need to be cooled), everything has to go 0-60 in 2 seconds, more power, more torque, etc., etc., etc. I've lost track with where we are in saving the planet.

If you leave gas sit in your mower for winter chances are it's not starting phase separation. But again why even go if theirs a 500 mile pure EV range other than to tow ??

RE keeping the ICE engine loose and operating: a prior post mentioned that the GM Volt did routinely automatically start the engine and run it to check systems, keep everything loose and prevent year old fuel from being an issue. I assume a similar system is planned for Scout.

Ford Lighting beat Cybertruck to the punch. Now looks as if Jeep will beat scout by year or so. Hope history doesn’t repeat and we don’t have a similar fail for these two contenders as Ford and Tesla did in their competition truck EV journey.

230 miles of range will steer many buyers away.

That sounds like a great idea, hope Scout integrates that process too

Jeep/Stellantis already knows this is a failure before they are even hitting showrooms. That price point and the awful range is a joke. (Remember, the ID.Buzz didn't sell well here and was discontinued due to the high price and low EV range). Most that have actually driven the Buzz actually loved it.

They rushed the 4XE as well CDJR is in trouble. Maserati , Alfa Romeo will probably file for chapter 11 shortly Chryslers Pacifica is their only offering that sells and that's done Kia and Honda are taking away sales. So people who own Alfa and Maserati's are screwed once warranty and parts are no longer available. I wouldn't touch a CDJR product. Jeep most likely will be spun off. Keep in mind Stallantis could sell off Maserati and Alfa to Geely a Chinese car company they own Volvo. But the Chinese could buy an established brand in chapter 11 and rebrand their current models and get them into US market under old brands name and it would be welcomed because they would honor all the warranty work and continue parts to be stocked. Current owners would be happy. But no Rams in this guys driveway.

If 85% of Scout buyers want the Harvester, do you think Scout's going to sell it at a cheaper price even if it costs less to make? It seems inevitable the Harvester will be an extra-cost option.
I don't think they have a choice. Ford and Ram leadership have both stated that COST of vehicles is their main priority over the next 3 years. They want more affordable options on the table. I don't see how a start-up like Scout can come in at the high end of the pricing spectrum and expect to do well, especially with no dealership network. I expect Scout Harvester to be priced lower. If not, what will happen is there will be an initial buzz of sales by the people who just have to get the newest thing...and then sales will fall off and die.
