Apparently you've never needed a truck to tow a trailer more than 200 miles, and you've never had to find a charge station that is laid out in a way that you can get the truck with trailer close enough for the cord to reach without pissing off the rest of the general public. And you've never...
I think I made it explicity clear from the beginning that COST is what I am talking about. COST is what people care about. Nobody gives a rip how "efficient" a truck is. What everybody wants to know is "how much is this going to COST me?" Cost cost cost.
Well, at 202,000 miles my 2020 Grand Cherokee had seen ONE repair, a water pump. So the tow truck drivers are going to starve to death if they're waiting on a call from a Jeep owner.
I've had dozens of Jeeps, driving a new one right now, and little to zero issues with them. Can't say that for...
Maybe that'll be the way to go. Some states have laws against direct-to-consumer sales I guess, because CA and CO have filed lawsuits already from what I read in Automotive News.
I don't follow what you're saying. COST is ultimately what matters to people.
What I ended up doing is I made a simple Excel spreadsheet to compare mi/kWh to MPG solely in terms of cost. I also divided it up by charging at home vs. charging on the road.
Charging on the road is a more fair...
Yet, when I tow my 26' enclosed trailer with a gasoline truck I get 10 MPG. And when I tow the same trailer with the Lightning I get 0.6 mi/kWh which at current energy prices is equivalent to around 3.5 MPG.
So, charge speed is half of the problem. Efficiency is the other half.
True. When...
Exactly. They committed to building junk engines for the Tundra that are still being recalled, and junk transmissions for the Tacoma that are failing left and right, but at least they did avoid the EV drama.
What is interesting is that roughly two weeks prior to yesterday’s announcement, I got a survey about the F-150 Lightning that I assume most owners also received and it came from a third party who was clearly contracted by Ford to gather data on owners’ opinions of the truck. The survey asked...
Ford was already being sued by suppliers over the delay to the "T3" replacement for the Lightning. Now that they have cancelled Lightning AND the T3 replacement I'm guessing those suppliers are going to be livid. That's going to cost Ford money too.
EREV is brilliant. All the EV benefits but...
Yeah, I do think it's odd to build EVs and then saddle them with equipment that is counterproductive. I'm an off-road guy. Heck, today I drove my Rubicon to work. But I'm also practical. A 37" tire wrapped around an 18x9" wheel with tire weights, TPMS sensor, etc. is going to tip the scales...
Yeah I agree with that. If a guy has no need to tow heavy weights long distances, then an EV pickup truck is perfect. With 300 miles of range in good weather, it’s plenty for weekly commuting or trips to the lake or Lowe’s for lumber or whatever. And the power, low cost of charging at home...
Funny y'all say that, because I watched a video on YouTube where they took ALL the electric trucks and towed long distance with them. The Rivian and Tesla were the least favorite of the bunch. GM trounced the others in towing range, and Ford won "favorite overall" almost unanimously.
I'm talking at 95-100% charge. (Ford intentionally holds back a small part of the actual capacity of the battery so that a 100% charge is not really 100% of the capacity. They do this for the health of the battery.)
Won't surprise me one bit to see Recon owners complaining of 150 miles of range...
Yeah my Lightning was advertised as having 300 miles of "estimated" range. And in summer it did. But now it's down to 250 per charge, and when we get to January I bet it's closer to 200. Cold weather and BEVs don't play well together.
So if you take this Jeep Recon, at "up to 250 miles of...
We all know these things are going to be $70k or higher out the door. The payments are going to rival mortgages.
I think the bigger question right now is: How will this sales model work? They're claiming direct-to-consumer is how they are going to approach sales. So will that mean that the...
So back in the summer, I leased a new 2025 F-150 Lightning Flash. It has the medium range battery pack at 123 kWh usable. Advertised range 300 miles.
Over the last several months I have learned some things about these BEV pickup trucks.
- In cold weather, I've already lost 30% of my range...
Yeah they're saying "under $60k start price" which means $59,995 plus destination, doc fees, dealer fees, and then any options you want at all? So we're realistically talking $70k out the door to even get into a decent Scout model? This thing is going to be pricey.
