If they do a direct Factory Sale I am still in. Flying/driving there and picking up the car, beats dealing with any dealer for me.
I'll only reluctantly do dealer, if it is all online, no markup and process on day of pickup: Give the check and get the keys/car. Outta here.

I second the reluctant dealer customer, but I'm not quite so hard core. If I can place the order online with verified pricing, even if the official sale has to happen in person, there are no "market adjustments" and they sell it at MSRP, and they can try to sell me some optional upgrades, warranty, or their financing, but unless the deal is compelling it's a hard no... I would still be willing reluctantly, to deal with a dealer. They won't really like me as a customer though.

When we bought my wife's last car I had called a dealer to see if they had a barely used car in stock and available because it was a 45 minute drive. They said yes. We immediately left. When we got there they told me they had just loaded it onto a truck for a dealer transfer, I made a pretty loud stink on the middle of the showroom floor. Unfortunately my wife found another car in 5 minutes she was interested in, and I was not happy about encouraging their behavior by entertaining anything else from them. But she really liked it, and I was a jerk for the entire transaction. That's just to say if it's my car, and it would be, I don't care how much I love it, if they mess around with me, I won't buy.

I fully agree. My local dealers of all brands won’t budge on price. I’ve purchased several new vehicles well outside this area because the markup is so bad that even flying and driving it back or having a vehicle shipped still saved thousands of dollars. Our local dealers priced the VW Buzz $20k over MSRP and would not budge and another priced the Kia Carnival $10k over MSRP when it came out. There is no value added to their pinstriping, “rust protection”, and all of the other stuff they pretend to put on plus spending hours declining all of the add-ons in finance which they push even if paying cash.

They ought to do a poll of current reservationist and see who's in or out and they can use that in their court fight that they lost 40 % of there reservations once dealership purchase was mandatory who's in and who's out ??

That’s a great question. We were Bronco reservation holders and everything went perfectly with the dealer we chose for delivery but the horror stories out there were insane.
Even though you reserved and ordered the vehicle the dealer owned it and could do whatever they wanted including huge mark-up’s when the vehicle arrived.

People were pissed and we had many horrible google review campaigns against shady dealers.

I’m not emotionally attached to Scout like I was for the Bronco and would probably walk but would be pretty upset. The dealer game is such a joke, get a good one and all is well, get a bad one and they can make your life a living hell. It seems as they can go out of their way to be horrible and no one really cares they just sort of expect it.

My two best car buying experiences were with small independent Ford dealers.
