Greetings folks, new to the forum and while reading through the threads I haven't seen any conversations around the idea that an LFP battery might have a good charge profile and cost benefit for the harvester. We would be able to run deeper into the power curve of a smaller capacity battery and the engine/generator combo could provide higher constant charging curve from the generator while not having to ride the NMC curve down as quickly. We know that when the generator is running it is for power to the motor and not necessarily charging. Just a thought and curious what the community thinks about the potential for this combo. Thanks.

You're probably on the right track, especially since people with the harvester are going to want to 100% charge much more often to eke out every bit of range with the smaller battery.

Also, the generator will not be direct power for the 2 e-motors, instead the generator will supply energy to the battery. If you're using less energy than is being supplied the excess will stay in the battery.

Thanks for the correction, seems to fit the profile even better to pull all of the available power from the generator when running. A side note, as a previos disillusioned resla owner, and living in the south HVAC destroyed my EV range. Having the harvester should provide a good source for HVAC without killing the battery. They may even reduce cost/complexity by going with traditional compressor vs heat pump.

I'm not sure what year EV you had, but they more modern Heat Pump HVAC systems don't kill your battery quite as much (at least from what I gather from YouTube, I don't have an EV right now). But yes, apart from ICE maintenance, you get the benefits of both worlds with the harvester. I'm going full BEV because I'm ready to make the jump, assuming the battery has 130+kWh so I can tow my boat.

I sure wish they would look into/offer a hybrid.
They are offering a hybrid, the Harvester is a hybrid, the engine just doesn't directly power the wheels. For a traditional hybrid setup they would need to spend millions upon millions to put in a larger ICE, transmission, driveshafts, transfer case, larger fuel tank, etc.

What's wrong with the Harvester?

You need to be in love before you walk down the isle Hybrid is the gateway to full EV once you experience firsthand you won't be disappointed and I've been blessed to drive some of the best

I currently have a Santa Fe Calligraphy (HEV) and love it! If they did some research and take this vehicle, HEV and all the bells and whistles- put it in the Scout- I'm sold. I dread the "plug in" - so old school... give me a system that switches between a gas engine and battery automatically.... they're arent that many HEVs out there. Just think they are missing out....

Man I grew up in a garage my first car was a 62 Colony Park Station wagon and restored many . Had Porsche targa 77 track car 996 vettes 3 , bmws , mercedes , trucks but since getting older 66 I don't miss getting in and out of the vette's This Cadillac VISTIQ is size of a Tahoe and rides like a Cadillac and is faster than my corvette and I don't miss the rumble and the maintenance that came with um. Look at it this way when your heart stops do they pour miracle mystery oil down your throat or hit you with a charge of electricity.

This will hold me over till the scout comes and by then I will be more accustomed to EV life. But already putting a battery storage with solar on the roof to charge car and run Ac plus car act as another power source while plugged in. To me it's cool shit to the dinosaurs it's intimidating
