Saw this question asked and I'm curious too -- will Harvester EREV owners need to smog check their Scouts? There is emissions from the gasoline engine afterall.

It might have to, but depending on if the emissions of the engine and the battery equal out it will be considered carbon neutral. And wont have to be checked. Or at least that how my state handles it.

I suspect Georgia will make us get it checked just to "own the libs".

FWIW emissions testing is normally for CO, Hydrocarbons, and NOx plus sometimes particulates (diesel). Afaik no state uses CO2 as a pass fail since it is merely a function of fuel mileage. The focus is on smog-causing chemicals.

It's a generator, it does not propel the vehicle directly. It should be exempt from testing.

Still, the engine/generator produces emissions so that has to be checked to make sure it is in compliance with State regulations. Probably depends on the State.

Here in Oregon, my Cadillac ELR had to get tested for emissions even though the generator was not propelling the car directly, using the Voltech powertrain. And all that info for establishing proper compliance is right there recorded in the car and waiting for diagnostic in the OBD2 connector. So yeah, still got to go in and have the car tested if it has a generator

Ordered BEV but never thought of emissions check on Harvester. In WI the lib’s likely won’t give the Harvester a break (only a half green vehicle especially with smaller battery and towing capability). Likely will charge the Harvester models full EV license fuel surcharge and take your gas tax at the pump. Once any government agency has control they struggle to give it up.
