I think the Erev is an engagement ring before you walk down the isle with the EV after you have experienced EV life you'll understand all the best to everyone happy Thanksgiving

other way around for me. I have an EV, but want the EREV to make road trips more enjoyable. I’m doing a 1200 mile round trip in December, the extra time spent charging is just a PITA.

I don't think we will know the true details regarding EREV's until they are actually produced and tested. Real world efficiencies are often very different than stated and even further from planned. Advancing technology will be something to watch.

That's correct. 350 miles of range comes from the gas Harvester. I think some people get confused when they read 350 miles of range from the BEV Scout vs 500 miles of range from the Harvester model. Some incorrectly assume the batteries are the same. Harvesters have smaller batteries with a different chemistry than the BEV versions.

All my personal full EV real world experience comes from years of eBike building; even before the craze of eBikes hit during the last several years. Range anxiety IS REAL and very stressful. At least with homemade eBikes using crank based motors and universal lithium ion batteries, you can add more battery, update batteries when technology changes and keep your eBike current. Proprietary batteries on branded eBikes prevent that ability. When they do offer additional battery range you are stuck with their branded battery as your only option at whatever price they want to charge.

Full EV cars and trucks are even worse with regard to getting stranded, wasting time charging in the middle of nowhere at what ever charging rate is available and upgrading to new battery technology usually (if not always) means upgrading to a new vehicle with a huge depreciation loss.

Full EV's aren't for me YET. Infrastructure and technology has a long way to go for me personally to make that jump, unless it's a second small devoted grocery getter vehicle for around town. But like so many out there now, we are looking for a one vehicle solution to our transportation needs.

Just where I current stand. Your mileage may vary... (greatly! ;))

I'd rather the machines just be called what they really are: a Series Hybrid.
I have a different take. The Scout is simply an EREV.

If I drive a Rivian R1T or pure EV Scout Harvester and sometimes carry an electric generator in the truck bed as a precaution, that doesn't make the truck a series hybrid on those times I'm hauling the generator.

One could own an EREV Scout and never need the generator. After all, the first gen Nissan Leaf had a range on only 73 miles. The Honda Clarity was good for 89. My guess (hope) is that the Scout EREV is designed so the vehicle runs just fine even if the generator fails, as long as the battery has charge.

That's not the case with so-called parallel hybrids like the Prius Prime. Regardless of drive-mode setting, the gasoline engine can kick in at any time. The engine on a Prius Pime will run when the car is too hot, too cold, accelerated hard, or driven above 84 mph. It's just a hybrid with a somewhat bigger battery:

Before marketing ever invented the term EREV, the term being used, though they weren't a popular format, was series hybrid for what companies are now starting to call EREVs. It would be interesting to see who originally created the EREV term.

You are right on putting a portable generator into a BEV doesn't make it a series hybrid. For that term to be used appropriately the generator needs to be integrated into the vehicle physically and from a power and control perspective.

Scout has already said the EREV version will have a battery only mode. So I don't see any reason they would disable the vehicle if the generator failed as long as the power bus doesn't have a detected fault.

The idea of a Ford 3/4 ton EREV is interesting - but no details other than thinking it is a probably future Ford project.

AFAIK, there are no "put it on a window sticker" battery range specs yet. Current (no pun intended) range specs for available EVs are a bit optimistic and vary widely with load and temperature. I hope your crystal ball is correct. I like the idea of a "pure" EV but it simply does not work for me (yet).

I currently have Cadillac VISTIQ 310 miles range have only driven so far in warm temperatures I will be venturing back north for Christmas will see fist hand but if they can accomplish 500 miles of range Lucid is currently offering it and Escalade IQ is specking 450 so by the time Scout gets there shit together 500 mile battery packs should be available and they should be able to engineer them into design while being developed. Meaning they engineer a accessible space that allows easy battery access So basically these big Tonka trucks could be sitting in Scouts manufacturing facilities waiting for their batteries in once VW has them
