The cheaper LFP batteries would work better with a range extender since they are more durable compared to NMC. LFP doesn't have issues being charged to 100% continuously, and can be charged many more cycles versus NMC, which is happiest in the 20-80% range, and usually rated for half the lifetime charge cycles versus LFP.

My biggest worry for the EREV would be the reliability of a VW high output 4 cylinder engine...having PTSD thinking of all the oil burning/piston issues of the 1.8/2.0 liter VW/Audi TFSI 4 cylinder engines (I used to work in an Audi Parts Dept).

The VW EA888 2 liter is a good motor. The biggest issues are a leaky water pump and carbon buildup from direct injection. I don't know anything about the reliability of the 1.5 TSI EVO engine. These are 2 likely candidates and both are made in Mexico.

why not make a all gas Scout as well..

Up until this last inauguration several states are banning the sale of gas & diesel powered vehicles.
The current administration says that will (and maybe already has) change with a signature,, but one never knows.
Could go back the other way.

They will never stop gas engines, or at least in my lifetime, build a new Scout with a LS3 or Coyote engine and they will come...How many more days til the first Scout rolls of the line, maybe we should get a pool going??? Until then I will enjoy my 1978 SS2...

Sure. Scout can start over and re-engineer the platform. It will only delay the vehicle by a couple of years. It's a fantastic idea!

Keep in mind that non-LFP battery BEVs are best operated between 80-20% charge. The occasional 100% charge for roadtrips and the like when you really need the extra range is of course possible. But this means that for the Harvester version you’re really looking at more like a 90mi daily usable range. Not good.

but LiFePo4 want to be charged to 100% every time so you may get 150 miles or closer to it. My wife averages 57 miles a day. I average 2 flights upstairs to my Radiology workstation.

Well he spoke of "possibilities" from an upgrade perspective. Bigger gas tanks, bigger battery options, I mean they're really going for it and don't even have the plant built yet! Let's hope they can pull it off.

So we have a ’17 JK Rubicon (0-60 sometime tomorrow) and a RAV 4 Prime (0-60 in 4.5s… advertised). While the acceleration of the RAV 4 is great in the city & highway, it will never see anything more than a groomed Forest Service Road… The Rubicon, on the other hand does well in Moab and other less groomed off-road trips. I’m hoping the EREV electric milage goes up (RAV 4 is around 40, so most anything is an improvement), but I’d be disappointed if the Scout comes with the 1.5 VW engine as the ‘standard’ option (RAV 4 engine doesn’t make my favorites list…). Only other thing I’m kind of looking at is breakover angle.

It's amazing how many people are not aware of several states that are banning the sale of Gas and diesel engine vehicles along with gas powered gardening equipment.

The latest Presidential Special order evidently overrules that and now "You can buy the car ya want."

I'm going to digress to avoid political discussion, but Calif is one of them.
We had to buy our weed eater in Las Vegas to clear brush on our property from fires.

I must be getting old because my 6.5 second(ish) EV6 seems plenty fast for me, and shaving even two more seconds off that would be amazing - let alone three. I can't imagine needing something much faster than what I have for anything other than bragging rights.

The R1 is smaller than these, and I suspect more aerodynamic. They are also not getting 350 miles with a 120 to 130kwh battery, especially with the A/T tires.

The scout's are (size and shape) between either R1 and the GM offerings.

I just hope he's wrong and they push the capacity up before release.

Wow that's a pretty insane drop. Almost makes you wonder if it would be worth it to have road tires for driving around and swap to AT when you are going to do trails and stuff.

Yeah I was on the fence over the R1S 20" AT vs 22" wheele and ultimately opted for the 22" since you only lose 15-20 miles for a max range of 308 since it's my daily driver that upon which I put 100+ miles per day.

I figured I'd eventually get a set of the 20"AT wheels but so far haven't been compelled to part with the $5,400.
