Well, brakes and oil... No oil changes and less brake changes as the EV motors are less on brakes. Now, the big question is, are tires replaced more often due to the increased weight of an EV? That would offset costs. (Not to mention if you keep the vehicle long enough to need to replace the battery....but then again, a new engine wouldn't be cheap either)

I don't know if I'd ever buy an EV vs. lease. The depreciation is through the roof. I leased a Jeep 4XE and the buyout was $40K and at the time I turned it in it was worth $26K.
It's not The weight of the EVs that causes the tires to wear out faster. It's the massive torque.

For me to go BEV the charging times need to get to under 10 minutes, there needs to be massively more charger stalls out on secondary highways in west Texas that are trailering friendly and on a charging network you can see and trust they will be functional, along with a little longer range.

Between towing, cold weather, the buffer you are supposed to leave for battery life, and the buffer you should have in case of an out of service charger when traveling in rural areas, range isn't nearly as long on BEVs as the best case 0-100% rating everyone quotes.

The "trailering friendly" part is the fly in the ointment for me. The Maverik station/convenience store in Craig, CO (the last stop before we proceed to our cabin) has a half dozen Tesla chargers but they are pull-in-nose-first. If I used them with a trailer attached I would block all of them. And, yet again, range. Mountain passes and temps in teens and single digits. I understand and appreciate all the posts touting new battery technologies but I am skeptical of the time horizon for them to come online in sufficient quantity.

As with everything else related to a product that is a couple of years away, we all are in wait and see mode.

It's simple to me Ev's are cheaper to maintain and lhave more of an upside they can power homes campsites etc. ice will co exist but follow the money and R&D it's all going towards battery development. Barrett Jackson will be selling your 2024 Ram as a classic look how fast Hyundai gained market share cars under 50 k with warranties to back um up keep in mind Hyundai owns Kia and Genesis as well. So once Chinese open plants in Mexico you will be seeing a whole lot more EV's and not junk if you've been to Europe you see firsthand. Tariffs won't hurt them once in Mexico their supply chains are subsidized so they will assemble in Mexico parts will be made in china happening now in Canada.

If it ends up I can't get the full BEV until mid-2029 or later I'll go somewhere else. I suspect the Kia/Hyundai will be available before then. Ford is still making noises about a midsize coming in at reasonable-ish prices, and the Telo looks appealing. I need a vehicle with a bed. I'm not towing anything long distances and the range issue is almost entirely due to the aerodynamics of the payload, not the weight.

I've done 800+ mile road trips in my Equinox. The trip was 45 minutes longer than in by Outback. I didn't actually stop more often, just a couple of the stops were longer.

I'm never buying another vehicle that burns fuel to move. And the first company that gets me what I need and want in the time I need and want it wins. I hope it's Scout, because the Terra appeals to me most out of the options I know, but if they can't provide the vehicle I want when I need it, tough shit for them I guess.

I am not sad about the smaller (lighter weight truck) battery. We have a Volvo XC90 Recharge plug-in hybrid with 32 mile battery and for the most part we get 900-1000 miles out of our 18ish gallon tank. Mostly it is trips to the grocery, into the City (21 miles) or the burbs (23 miles). We also only pay 7cents KW for power. I love driving this car in electric, I am so excited for the Scout to be all electric drive train. The XC90 has turbo and it is smooth, but not electric smooth.
I figure with the smaller battery I can get to my Dad's house (50 miles) and home with out the use of gas.

I wonder how many order they would get if they had a gas only engine???
It's unreal how oblivious the top brass at car companies are. The guy didn't know that U.S. buyers prefer gasoline? Is he serious?

If they had a third option: full ICE, you would see 90% of orders for THAT version, 8% EREV, and 2% EV.
Im in for a ICE,just dont make it a L87. ugh

EV downfall top ten.

Hope Scout offers a good lease, most all of these EVs for their own reasons lost 50%-70% value after three years if purchased outright.

So, it’s actually 12 but don’t count the two Teslas. LOL!

I haven't been on here in a long time - are people still moaning about range? After over 10 years of so many great EVs - that's what people are still on about?

I always hear, buy an EV it does everything your ICE car does. Well, ok, my ICE does everything too, why switch? It goes to the dealer once a year for a state inspection and oil change. My EV would still have to go to get a state inspection every year anyway. I keep my cars for 10-15 years and the amount of maintenance/ repairs in that time is insignificant.
Also oil gaskets, air filters, spark plugs, transmission fluid, timing belts, etc.

There are definitely pros and cons to ICE, BEV, EREV, and PHEV.

With the non-ICE versions you don’t have to go to the gas station regularly if you have charging ability at home. With ICE, EREV, and PHEV you can fuel conveniently and quickly pretty much anywhere.

What works for one person may not be ideal for another.

Just stumbled on this article describing how the predominance of Harvester orders supports the VW dealers argument that EREV’s don’t qualify for the “electric vehicle” exemption to dealer franchise laws?!

Who knows how this will play out BUT if Scout loses the case we may have helped the dealers prove their point.
