Volkswagen announces access to Tesla Supercharger network and availability of NACS DC adapter

  • Starting November 18th, Volkswagen ID.4 and ID. Buzz owners will be able to access the Tesla Supercharger network of 25,000 compatible DC fast chargers across North America, vastly increasing access and choice for Level 3 charging
  • Volkswagen’s DC fast-charging adapter for North American Charging System (NACS) to Combined Charging System (CCS) port will be available to purchase from VW dealers or online
  • ID.4 and ID. Buzz owners can use the Tesla app to locate compatible stations and pay for charging sessions
Reston, VA — Volkswagen of America, Inc., today announced that its ID.4 and ID. Buzz owners will be able to access the Tesla Supercharger network of 25,000 NACS Partner DC fast chargers, beginning November 18th. To enable the ID.4 and ID. Buzz vehicles to use the network, customers must purchase a Volkswagen-approved NACS adapter that will allow compatible Volkswagen electric vehicles to charge using the North American Charging System (NACS) fast charger plug.

For current Volkswagen ID.4 and ID. Buzz owners, adapters will be available through Volkswagen dealers or online at parts.vw.com, priced with an MSRP of $200. Original owners of MY25 ID.4 and ID. Buzz vehicles are eligible to receive a $100 rebate on the adapter. All rebate claims must be submitted within 90 days of the adapter purchase date and no later than July 15, 2026, see dealer for details. Adapters will come standard with all model year 2026 Volkswagen EVs.

NACS DC adapters are only for use with compatible DC fast chargers. They are not designed for use with Level 1 or Level 2 AC charging equipment, including home chargers and Tesla Destination Chargers. Owners of certain 2024 and 2025 ID.4 and ID. Buzz vehicles will receive information about a recommended software update to support optimal charging behavior.

“This is great news for our EV owners,” said Petar Danilovic, Senior Vice President, Product Marketing and Strategy, Volkswagen of America. “They will now be able to access the more than 25,000 DC fast chargers on the Tesla Supercharger network across the United States, in addition to the more than 5,000 fast chargers on Electrify America’s grid. This makes life much more convenient, whether you are taking a road trip or you rely on public charging should home charging not be an option.”

As an ID.4 owner, it’s about damn time! They promised June, so at least they hit the same year.

Supercharger access is better than nothing, but it still is not NACS. Better keep your AC charger in your frunk.
