My hope is at order time Scout is offering a full EV exceeding 400 miles at which I switch even if it means waiting. EREV's are great for towing but I want a clean divorce from Ice to me EREV's are the bag phones of the auto industry once EV battery tech advances to achieve 500 mile range EREV's will become the Edsel's of the automotive industry in my opinion.
You make a valid point. The 2026 Chevy Silverado EV with the right configuration has an estimated range of 493 miles on a full charge. We are looking at two years before the first Scout rolls off the line. Companies are already testing solid state batteries which are exceeding 600-750 miles of range today with 10 minutes to fully charge. In my mind that's a no brainer to go completely EV.. Why wouldn't Scout be eyeing this technology for release in their EV? Two factors play the big "deterrent" to EVs today, range and charge time. With solid state batteries you remove both of those hurdles. I'm also hoping by the time Scout comes to market they will be utilizing solid state battery technology with range over 600 miles and fast charging times.

Trying to apply real world logic to EREV's at current time where the scout is rated at 350 EV range and option two EREV version which is rated at 150 EV range and 500 total range with gas engine providing 350 miles of range via kicking on I'm sure at a st battery level or strain. This is what everyone else is under the assumption as well ?? But to me if Scout delays the full EV version which I think the order numbers will change once everyone understands the Erev to EV comparisons. Then how do they handle your ordering status what happens to you spot if you switch from Erev to EV. But the real question is if scout EV is delayed and at time of production has battery technology able to achieve 500 miles of range the Erev market becomes desirable to a much smaller market. Both have to be plugged in why do I want a gas engine if I don't tow or have commercial vehicles. So to me EREV's will become flip phones of auto industry in 3 yrs
If Scout thought that the new battery tech with increased range was a viable option for their first edition vehicles they would be advertising it. The batteries for the first edition vehicles are likely already determined and committed to.

* max range packages start at $76,000, way above target pricing for Scout. And there haven't been any huge advances in production car battery capacity or cost. They have slowly accrued over the past decade.

I think Scout will have some of the things discussed... in the mid 2030's.

They need to go into production the battery packs can be made to kilowatt size and a cad computer will integrate it into the structure of the vehicle they are driving around in prototypes basically Tonka's they have yet to build a real world test vehicle so at that time 28 months yes I think battery tech will be advanced. Because VW knows as well as others the future is EV technology. Google battery swap videos. If manufacturers can design batteries to be removed and installed in minutes the cost will be drastically reduced as well as durable. Real time EV users know and we welcome you to try firsthand you'll see the pluses outweigh the minuses and we all depreciate so why not do it in a great ride. It just has to make you happy not make financial sense and one day it will be the last car you buy so why not make them all great.

Why is range such a huge topic with EV's? My '25 Bronco has a 16 gallon tank and gets 20 MPG on a good day. I don't care in the least that I can "only" go 300 miles. That 300 though is pretty stable, matters not what ambient conditions are. Sure, extreme cold will hurt it a bit but not drop it in half. And when I towed a small Uhaul from Northern MI to VA the fuel mileage didn't even take a hit.

For me the issue is the ability to reliably recharge. If I could be promised the ability to reliably recharge pretty much anywhere in America and do it in about 15min with no waiting, just like I can now, I'd be pretty happy and my EV "tone" may be a bit different.

I can't see the charging infrastructure rivaling fueling in the next 10-15 years. Major cities maybe, the rest of America, not so much.

I currently have about a 300 mile (or less) range and it doesn't bother me a bit, no range anxiety what-so-ever. It's not range anxiety, it's charging anxiety.

When you have a home with a garage it's fantastic. And when you have two homes with level two chargers one outside one in garage it's pure heaven. If you own a second home and leave an ice vehicle there we have to fuel stabilize, battery tender not so with EV. All major cities highways and hotels offer charging. Most manufacturers now have access to Tesla superchargers. From Florida to Alantic City no problem charging 20 minutes walk Fido and back on the road cars hav pre plans stops preconditions battery ahead of charging and monitors current traffic conditions impacting battery level. You live in an apartment you'll charge twice a week probably near where you grab a bite check your emails and come back to a fully charged car for 15 bucks but if you have a home charger it's like the wife who cooks.
