Today's news from Rivan regarding full autonomous hardware and software seems to be great news for Scout if the partnership indicates the capabilities for Travler and Terra. This includes Lidar, radar, 60mp cameras, in-house hardware production, and the goal for Level 4 autonomy

I don't know. I would assume Rivian would want to keep that as a competitive advantage. On the other hand, sharing with VW could reduce costs through volume and provide more training data.

The deal included up to $5.8B funding from VW to Rivian. VW gains advanced, production-ready software/architecture, while Rivian gets vital cash flow and scale for its technology (specifically for R2 and building its Georgia plant). Rivian also benefits from VW's supply chain.

So, for $5B, I say autonomy is likely included in the details. Rivian needed the funding badly!

Unfortunately it appears not to be the case. RJ answers the question directly in this interview from today. The JV does not include Rivian's autonomy stack. However he does say that they'd be interested in licensing it. Still, I'd say it makes it probably more unlikely that something would come together in time for the initial Scout launch.

In a Rivian does this mean that you can pay $0 extra at vehicle purchase (all the hardware will be installed regardless) and then pay monthly $50 as you desire to use it? That seems almost too good of a deal.

It would be awesome if Scout had it. But I agree it's probably too far along to include at first launch, ignoring even going through the licensing negotiations to move forward. Plus Rivian is a more premium brand than Scout. I bet it would be a combination of an upgrade for the hardware, and a monthly or flat fee for use too.

Yeah I'm not sure if the $50/month requires a subscription or if you can stop and start it whenever. I agree that'd be a great deal.
