To me I own a 2026 Cadillac VISTIQ 310 miles of range 3 rows 650 lbs of torque 615 hp 0 to 60 3.7 and it rides like a Cadillac. Drive to Florida from New Jersey and it's simply great. Once you commit to EV's you'll become a believer and they're only going to get better so just go for a test drive and see for yourself is my advice to the doubters. And keep in mind those who tow are a minority and currently EV's aren't for those customers but let's be realistic they amount to 15% of the clients so who you marketing to the 85% or the 15% And once Scout comes available I'm sure battery tech and range will increase dramatically and towing will be no longer an issue.

This goes back to expectations of a $60k+ truck. You are right for me, if Scout was still only EV I wouldn't have placed a reservation even though I've always said if a company revived the brand I would buy one, and I like everything I've seen to this point. It would be a non-starter. I'd keep my F150 and replace it with same when it was non-economical to repair. I can't justify multiple personal vehicles.

Even if only 15% of people tow, for a SUV or truck to have legitimacy and credibility as a go anywhere do anything lifestyle accessory, with DIY repairabiliy, the market that desires that also expects it be able to tow a decent amount for a decent range. The fact that 70% of reservations are for the Harvester supports range and convenience concerns.

If charging actually does become ubiquitous even in very rural areas, and battery technology improves and becomes much cheaper in only 2 years, which I very much doubt on that time scale, then by 2030 Scout can easily discontinue the Harvester. But to launch in 2028 without it seems like it would be disastrous for their sales based on reservations.

If Scout isn't interested in trying to one up what you can get today in a Rivian or Lightning F150, they might as well close up shop and let people buy a Rivian (used if needed) or an ICE SUV or pick up.

This is a cyclical conversation that goes on in every towing thread. Team pure EV or I dont care about towing, and team we need towing plus the insurance fossil fuels give when youre in the middle of nowhere. Those of us who tow an appreciable load and/or distance will need more from Scout than current numbers for the truck to be considered for OUR daily use. No one will change anyone's mind on that, because that would mean converting someone else's lifestyle/job to be in line with your own. Scout has several years to change numbers, designs, etc before their release date, but there are a lot of trucks that are utilizing the same concept that will release around the same time. The people on this forum WANT to choose Scout over the competition, but needs are needs. I think we are hoping those needs, of Scout's self proclaimed target audience, are heard by stressing how important towing is.

I think that's why they are offering both pure EV and the Erev option I think the EV purists want no parts of ice in their drive train. And as to 70 percent of Terra Erev orders how many went that way for towing and how many went that way for range anxiety and will never tow ? Also I bet 25% change at order time to pure EV especially if battery tech LFP are available and your over 500 miles of range but I hope unlike our current government Scout caters to both sides

Funny that I got that article suggested to me by Google and read it a few minutes ago.

The idea that most people most of the time need less than the max range offered by most EV cars is very valid.

But one level below that is whether someone really needs the longer range and what percent of the need time makes it valid, or if it's various inconveniences of charging, or just general anxiety, and aversion to those problems on a very expensive purchase, it really doesn't matter because the car company needs to solve for it and not try to wave the issue away.

As far as the other arguments in that article, I thought it was very poorly reasoned. I thought about tearing it apart point by point and putting it on a personal blog, but I decided I have better things to do.

I'm not sure what this article has to do with towing. You've stated you dont tow more than your grandkids and wife around, and dont go on long road trips often. You dont have any skin in the game if you're going with BEV. If Scout decides the REV towing is where they want it, then oh well I'll go elsewhere with the "niche minority."

That's what's great about choices I guess that's why we're all not married to Red heads. But here is an interesting battery tech development with VW it's this king of advancement that will make Scout better. And I always like having skin in the game and I am just stating facts as I know them. 85% of SuV owners rarely tow or go off road. Hope to see you in a Scout !!

There's an old saying for the AWD/4X4 option, "It's better to have AWD/4X4 and not need it, then need it and not have it." Same goes for towing in my mind. Although most people don't tow much, when they need towing capacity for the 1%-5% of the time it's nice to have. I'm running into that problem with my Santa Cruz; need more towing capacity if I max out my trailer capacity.

Towing comes into play on all EV's because of the range towing impacts battery. So when 15 to 20
Percent that do take towing as a daily nessity then your better off driving a v8 or diesel towing hybrids or erevs will never compare to diesel's for towing. So Scout to be successful will market to the 80 percentile possible for future range extender options maybe they offer less frunk more battery or gasoline storage that's why I will wait for the premiere most of what's on this forum will be left on the copyright floor. Most likely you'll see 30% bailout this isn't draft day where we hope me make the right pick Scout when it does come to market will have more competition than currently is available. So they better be the bellwether and not the bell with a crack. My hope is their engineers exceed our expectations for that they receive my money.
