As to replacing it happens do to accidents so they have 3 rd party cost that's why insurance companies probably total vehicles rather than pay the cost of repairs. Especially if 2 to 3 yrs old which sucks if you were thinking of keeping long term insurance is only paying you nada value which isn't going to meet the vehicle's actual value to the owner. But I think packs and charging modules will definitely be a retrofit market that most likely be filled by the current battery manufacturers

Battery manufacturers go where the money is, producing new packs for the EV makers. They are not going to chase the one-off retrofit market.

What is more likely to happen is independent shops opening existing Battery packs and replacing bad cells. The majority of owners will get rid of the car before it gets to that point.

Is anybody actually replacing their batteries except under warranty? And for a new, higher end EV that I would only charge to 80%, 95% of the time, how long do we expect that battery to maintain at least 85% of original capacity?
I have a 2013 Nissan Leaf that I bought as a lease return in March of 2015. The main battery pack was replaced under warranty in October of 2017. It sits at 80% or less charge, and is periodically charged to 100%. It is currently just under 85% capacity. Carfax says it is worth $1200. I mostly drive it for shopping and doctor appointments, since I have a vehicle for work. It is still on the original brakes, and needs no regular maintenance.

My wife has a 2015 leaf... The 2013 she had met an unfortunate end. About 36,000 mi. Battery is about 85% I think. Brake fluid change every 12,000 mi, a couple of 12-volt batteries, and it's hard on windshield wipers. That's it. She loves it.

Very small percentage of cars needed an entire replacement.

Most or the warranty issues are resolved using small/individual packs.

I have had 3 EVs and none needed replacement so far.

Personally I think the current luxury EV's will last well over 15 yrs before batteries will become obsolete

Let's hope by the time scout hits reality the software issues are refined seems Rivian software is geared toward full electric vehicles not hybrid or erev formats. And one other thing we need to ponder. Do any of us on this forum think dealer associations aren't in Trumps ear about direct to consumer ?? And do you think he's going to allow a German conglomerate dictate the ground rules ?? Just questions I put out there

In my opinion it seems hard to distance yourself from VW when CEO of scout was the old CEO of VW maybe I'm naive but that's a hard sell in my book. Good thing is a lot can happen in two years.

My son's R1S (late first generation) at least five trips to the rivian service center in the first 3 months. Fortunately for him, the service center was only a 15-minute drive, and he really likes the car now.

I recite the story to say I'm very interested in what scout's service strategy is going to be. You can fix software over the air, but hardware usually needs a wrench.

MAYBE American OEM’s will take a look at what Scout is doing and actually offer an interesting alternative?! Not sold on what I am seeing so far.

I just follow the money and dealers know who to patronize to save their asses. And what better way to stick it to his old buddy Elon. I will be happy to but shocked if Scout sells DTC in current climate and administration
