Whoever at Ford approved 100k pricing on Braptor needs to put down the crack pipe for even a single second.
I got my black diamond at sticker in 2022 during crazy pricing times, and buying an identical spec now has an MSRP $6300 higher. Absolutely wild.
Braptor = Bronco Raptor. Low mileage used are popping up from 60-70 frequently, and some new ones are going for 75-85.
Raptor trucks are awesome, but yeah - they hold their value super well. I don’t have a need for either really, but my wife loves my current Bronco so if I’m going to spend that...
Not connected to the drive train via transmission, but supposedly enough power to keep you going while towing - not a trickle charge but a full generator.
4.5 seconds is great for me for 35” all terrains and lockers in a 6-7000 lb vehicle with Offroad suspension.
Don’t get it twisted - I love fast. But I’m just going to talk the wife into picking up a V8 Cayenne for the fast/luxury itch.
I fully expect traveler Harvester + Offroad to come in at a minimum of 70k…which, yeah, is gonna be a no go for me (unless there’s somehow 10k of rebates like they’re implying).
We can afford it but…at that price I’ll just buy a used Braptor.
Yeah I’d been wondering about this too. Doesn’t track with lockers, 12” clearance (turbulence), 35s, and a much draggier undercarriage.
Plus, why go with different chemistry on the EREV battery? Seems like that would complicate supply chain more than just using the same chemistry but fewer...
Holy shit. At 53 minutes he says the range extender and fuel tank are upgradeable - bigger tank, more power on the range extender (more range or power).
Can’t tell if he’s talking about aftermarket upgrades, or Scout offering different options for harvester engine/tank down the road but either...
I made an effort post in another thread - making some assumptions, if you figure the generator gets 18mpg equivalent and the battery/range numbers are identical to an r1t
The energy density of gas is 12,200 Wh/kg - lithium ion is 330 Wh/kg.
Even a 200lb engine/genset and a 30 lb tank with 120...
Sorry I was looking for the link. Threw me for a loop at first as I was expecting that +150 from a generator too, but honestly it makes a lot of sense for most people now that I’ve thought about it...
The pure BEV will have 350 miles of range and the EREV has been said to cut battery only range in favor of the extender. Makes sense for weight reasons too, batteries are heavy af.
I was just effort posting in another thread about range vs weight, and making wild guesses at weight differences between the full BEV drivetrain and the EREV drivetrain. Good find here!
Okay lots of assumptions. I’m going to upgrade this from a SWAG to a WAG.
- Harvester gets 18mpg equivalent - approximately Bronco wildtrak
- Uses 3cyl vw engine, weight rounded up to 200lbs from 188.
- Fuel tank 19.4 gal, about Bronco wildtrak 4dr size.
- Fuel tank weight empty same as Bronco...
Fair point, but gasoline is way more energy dense. Figure 2/3 reduction in battery size, 100x more energy dense gasoline, and…I’m at the gym and don’t feel like doing more math.
I hear you, but I’d put a friendly wager of $10 to sons of Smokey that harvester weighs at least 100 lbs less...
I’m also concerned about weight. The R1S weighs 7000 lbs, a second gen raptor is 5500. I wonder if the greatly reduced battery size on the harvester model might actually end up being lighter than the BEV.
If Traveler comes in at 7k lbs I probably won’t buy, unless wife decides she wants my...
