I think it's great to have VW's pipeline and financing behind scout. But I also think when it comes time for the dealer associations lawyers do their investigative work it won't be hard to tie Scout and VW together therefore making their case to disallow DTC sales. One cannot jump for joy for Scouts association in one spot and claim no Affiliation in another. And with the current brilliant people currently in charge of legislation it's a long shot for DTC sales and I bet Scout already knows that.

I'm far from a legal expert in the field, but some of your argument doesn't make sense.
A VW Routan was mostly a Dodge van, built in a Dodge factory in the USA. Was Volkswagen required to allow Dodge dealers to sell VW vehicles? Was VW required to offer franchises to any Dodge franchise holders? VW was accessing Dodge engineering and technology, supply chains, and even factories. Would this be enough to claim that VW was a subsidiary of Dodge/Chrysler and therefore Dodge dealers had a right to a VW franchise or to sell VW branded vehicles?
What about current vehicles like the Toyota supra and BMW Z4? Toyota bz4x/Subaru solterra? Honda prologue/Chevy equinox/blazer?

I know this situation is a bit different, but I just don't see that borrowing technology/engineering, accessing supply chains, or even using the same manufacturing facilities, is enough to determine that Scout is NOT independently owned and operated from VW.

Now I think there may be other issues that may play into this situation, like how the Scout brand and intellectual property is owned and if or how it is license for use by the scout motor company. But I doubt anyone here has the legal knowledge and experience to really have insight into this situation.

Personally, I don't understand why the government will allow me to buy almost any other item directly from the manufacturer but somehow an automobile I can't? Make it make sense.

Assuming this Agreement transitions into sn actual Signed Contract tis IS Good News (based on Current Market Battery Tecnology in tremendous flux). Good to read others comments to gain a more Global Perspective on this News (eg: DTC Considerations, US Potlitical Stances on Tariffs "influx", upcoming EV Battery Technology not yet Publicly Announced, etc). Its a Brave New World in Global Automotive Industries with exciting mew Alliances yet to come! 💪🏼👍

It sounds like Sodium Ion batteries would not be good for range however. looks like the tech is good for storage where size/space is not an issue. But it'd be cool if they can make it work in a car, and get a decent/acceptable range!
