RE : Trim levels: just saw a loaded 24 Hummer 3x, 8k miles for under $70k asking. All the luxury and performance goodies you want.

Piqued my interest until I started reading about the owner horror stories. Biggest take away for me was that the rank and file dealer networks are not able (or willing) to take on EV service (kinda kills the whole argument against direct to consumer sales!!).

REALLY hoping Scout can avoid this level of disaster. Cautiously optimistic.

The thing to watch is who VW anoints the protocol son Is it Rivian or Scout since they both compete in same market who will get the advance technology both or will one get preferential treatment VW is invested heavily in both companies

That's why you need to buy an EV from an established dealership network not a small family dealership that doesn't have the financial resources to upgrade and send technicians to training. Before I bought my Cadillac I asked to meet EV technicians my dealership has two both spent 4 weeks of training and are continually required to go for updates and certification

For the life of me I don't understand why we don't steal their intellectual properties like they have done to us and leapfrog battery technology
IP isn’t the thing holding the US back. Solid state battery stuff isn’t some secret China only info, most of it is already public or patented and everyone knows how it works. The hard part is actually building them at scale without crazy costs or junk reliability.

China’s ahead because they can build factories faster, take way more risk, and burn through bad early production without freaking out investors. Even if we “stole” everything tomorrow, we’d still need years to dial in manufacturing and supply chains. BMW, Mercedes, and MG all talk solid state, but it’s mostly pilot stuff, not real mass market yet.

Eventually we will be integrating Chinese batteries into our vehicles ford and GM are investing in Chinese battery manufacturing companies CATL and BYD currently the tariffs are to high but imagine taking CATL innovation and manufacturing in GM's battery plant and GM is paying them a fee. After they by a trump gold card CATL can send a few technicians to GM's plant and get the ball rolling it's sad but I guess we have to have the bag phone before the I phone everybody needs to be paid before innovation is mass marketed

AIC MG delivered the first MG4 model with a semi-solid-state EV

battery in China, starting at under $15,000.

The MG4 is the first EV with a semi-solid-

state battery

In August, SAIC MG launched the all-new MG4 at the Chengdu Auto

Show, deeming it “the world’s first mass-produced semi-solid-

state” electric vehicle.

The new MG4 is available in five different trims: Comfort, Ease,

Freedom, Smart, and the semi-solid-state “Secure” edition.SAIC MG announced on Thursday that it had delivered the first MG4

equipped with the new battery tech. The new MG4 is on sale

starting at 68,800 RMB ($9,800), with prices rising to 102,800 yuan

($14,500) for the semi-solid-state battery model.

It’s available with two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery sizes:

42.8 kWh or 53.95 kWh. The three lowest-priced trims are equipped

with the smaller (42.8 kWh) battery, providing 437 km (271 miles)

CLTC driving range, while the Smart version uses the 53.95 kWh

battery, delivering 530 km (330 miles) of range.

Meanwhile, the semi-solid-state variant is powered by a 53.95 kWh

semi-solid manganese-based lithium-ion battery, delivering 530 km

(330 miles) of CLTC range.

All new MG4 models are powered by a single front-mounted “six-in-one” electric motor with 120 kW (161 hp) and 250 Nm torque. Using

DC fast charging, it can recharge from 30% to 80% in 20 minutes.

The electric hatch is 4,395 mm long, 1,842 mm wide, and 1,551 mm

tall, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. That’s about the size of the BYD

Dolphin.

Like most Chinese EVs nowadays, the new MG4 is loaded with

modern tech and features. The smart cockpit is powered by a

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 in-car chip. The interior of the new MG4 with a semi-solid-state battery (Source: SAIC MG)

While the three lower-priced trims feature a 12.8″ central

infotainment screen, upgrading to the Smart and semi-solid-state

models adds a bigger 15.6″ display with 2.5K resolution.

The company said that by reducing the liquid electrolyte content to

just 5%, the semi-solid-state EV battery significantly reduces the

risk of combustion and improves the cycle life.

In two recent needle penetration tests, the new battery produced no

smoke, no fires, and no explosions after two hours. SAIC MG said it

was an industry first, exceeding industry standards by 20%.

SAIC MG delivered over 13,000 new MG4 models in November. It’s

also the best-selling independent Chinese car brand overseas, A

“beacon of Chinese automotive success,” in the EU and British

markets, the company said.

All I am stating is within the next two years I believe we will see 500 mile EV range under 80 k that's why to me i rather have a full EV then a 500 mile ERev. Especially when you look at V2 capabilities I think depreciation of EREV's are on the horizon once we see 500 mile EV's

Depreciation is exactly what concerns me. The 2024 Hummer is already close to 50% depreciated after 24 months (may have a little more value based on name recognition BUT service history isn’t helping?!).

New battery tech will go into cost reduction and charging improvements, not doubling range. The majority of EV owners use 12% of their battery capacity a day, a MFG focusing on range is doing their investors a disservice.
