I've not seen any specific interior dimensions. With the final packaging who knows, the R1T and Lightning are pretty close in width but the Lightning feels bigger on the inside. I hope they copy the Lightning proportion in a slightly shorter package.
I'm pretty happy with the size. MY R1T is smaller and sportier than a Lightning but I'd trade that for more bed space and rear seat room. Scout seems to split the difference, I'll miss the occasional use of the gear tunnel but I'd rather have more useable cabin space.
The workaround has always been to build a “new” brand. Ford messed up by trying to do it all in the Model E program, that relied on existing dealers giving up control of pricing.
Short of some monumental screw up I can’t imagine VW has any sort of deal with the dealer network prohibiting direct...
Rivian has kneel mode to assist with entry/exit as they all have an adaptive air suspension. I'm not sure the $60k Scout vehicles will, but have to imagine the standard EV trick of lower ride height speed to increase range will appear on the Scout vehicles. If so then it's not a strech to enable...
Depends on the EV and the efficiency. Years ago, my general rule when I drove a Tesla was to reduce range by 40% when it got under 40 out. With the Rivian I'm closer to 15-20%. The EPA has upped the difficulty of its range tests so I don't know if either of these are reasonable. The two biggest...
Lane change assist will be there, it came to all Rivian vehicles in a software update. If they could make it work on a platform designed almost 10 years ago (Gen 1 Rivians) then I can't see why it'd be absent from a vehicle that goes into production 2 years from now. Gen 2 Rivians are supposedly...
I have zero faith in Stellantis EVs. I know they have many in the family sold in Europe, but I just can't shake the thought of how many issues they have in ICE vehicles and how that would translate to EVs. Hope to be proven wrong because these OEMs need to make more EVs in general
Would be surprising if Scout added in a start button. Rivians don't have one. At least if they must include make it optional, I'd much rather not use one.
Based on the "One More Thing" part of the presentation, the battery capacity is smaller to make room for a gas tank. You'd target 100-150 miles "EV only", 350-400 gas generator. The sheer cost and weight of the batteries needed to make 350 EV miles, plus a gas tank and an ICE would make this...
PAAK will be an option if it’s not standard. I can’t see why Scout would waste resources on their own thing and not just pull directly from Rivian’s parts bin. It’s just that Rivian’s implementation hasn’t exactly been the best. I’ve been fairly lucky but I know others have struggled.
I think I’d pass on an electric tonneau this time around. Offer it as an option, but after waiting for 8 months on parts after my Rivian cover stopped working I’d rather just deal with something manual.
I could have sworn I saw a compressor in one of the media event shots. But I could be...
Thankfully they went with something smaller. Looks pretty good. Hopefully they can do a bit better with the keyfob and PAAK reliability than what Rivian launched with.
They could split off and add Carplay, it's technically possible. But I'd imagine VW saw a quick win getting both EV architecture and software by signing one check.
It's tough to say without understanding the implementation of the range extender. It's always good to have the option, the example MrOzman mentioned could happen. Having some experience with Rivian I'm less concerned about having a software option at launch than I am understanding the specs and...
They should work out a deal with VW service centers. That $5B is going to go pretty quick if they have to build out dozens of service hubs across the country, fill them with parts and staff. I understand the vehicles are supposed to be more serviceable, but mobile support can only handle so much.
There’s no one stitched together 360 view that you can drag and spin around like other cars. But there are more than enough camera views that show you around the vehicle and bed.
