I have seen many people concerned and confused to why there’s a bar is on the back windows. It has a purpose that most might not know, it works with the weather stripping for the doors and Windows. Without the division bar the possibility of leaking is higher. Inside that thin bar is a channel that runs water away from the door seals. And besides those factors it also makes it be that a less powerful window solenoid is need making the car use less powerful on stupid little things. Probability of making it into production is very high.

I think people are getting hung up on why the Terra has one. The Traveler makes sense because the rear wheel well is incorporated into the door shape so you cant have the entire window open since it just wouldn't fit in the door when down. The Terra has a full sized rear door so in theory all that glass should be able to fit inside the door and the divider wouldn't be needed. Without looking too closely at it and trying to scale off pictures, I'm going to guess the movable portion of the rear windows on both the Terra and Traveler are the same size. Either A) to cut down on additional parts needed for production so that both vehicles utilize the same glass, lift assembly and motor. Or B) it's a pre-production prototype and they were just trying to keep their costs down and use what they had on hand for the time being knowing they can change it if they want to as they get ready for production.

Most likely A, but B is also a probability.

Parts interchangeability. That's why the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator share a lot of parts, including the cut-away rear doors on both of them (the Gladiator doesn't need them).

Reduces manufacturing costs when parts are shared.

I would like to see a wing window myself. Just my 5 cents as they were handy. Guess I should get myself an old scout as well lol. Have both. Lots of fun.

Most of the larger car brands do it. The major one who happens to be famous for it is BMW and M-Series almost every BMW shares around 25-50% of the same parts.

I’m just baffled that people are concerned about it.

You know I hadn't even noticed that until this thread, but, it does look out of place given the shape of the opening and the door itself. If there's nothing in the Terra door interfering with the entire width of the window rolling all the way down I'd prefer they use a different part(s) and pass that additional cost to the consumer. But I also understand the position on parts commonality to minimize costs. However, the door is already going to be different, so wonder what the per unit cost increase would be to put a full width window in it. And I was also unaware of the drainage function. I had always assumed a choice had been made to allow a given width of the window to roll fully down vs a full width window not able to roll all the way as is sometimes the case. But it's not a deal breaker either way, just looks cleaner and is more functional (assuming no leakage problems) if the full width window is feasible.

Not sure if it would make a difference or not - but perhaps it is also designed to reduce wind noise.
