Been on the sidelines watching for the "right EV" model for us. The Scout EREV option finally tipped the scales

Hi All,

I had resolved years ago to drive my 2012 Audi A6 3..0T (going strong at 200k ;-) ) until I could buy an EV that excites me. Scout with the EREV option has finally done it. I got my reservation in on 10/27/24 and I can not wait. I just purchased my spouse a '25 GLE450e with 60miles pure EV capability and are already enjoying that. Hoping for more strong hybrid offers.

We live in central NY state and it gets really cold here so a pure EV charged only between 20-80% to keep the battery healthy would likely only get 60% of the listed range and good power backup option is a must until batteries get better.

There is no hard fast rule that you have to always charge between 20-80%. It's wildly overstated. If it's cold, charge as much as you want and drive away. Just don't let it sit for extended periods with a low or high SOC.

While the EREV model may very well suit your needs regardless, I wouldn't worry about batteries getting the job done in the cold. I drove this morning at -10°F. Charged to 80% overnight and then charged to 90% when I woke up so the battery was nice and warm when I left with it still charging.

Even with that extreme and driving up to 85mph at times, I only lost a PURE 40% of distance compared to the actual length of the trip and I'm always about 10% off that anyway except if I go slow in the summer. Yesterday it was only about 0F and my range only suffered about 15% but I was driving (same route) slower.

Scout EREV will help a lot of people get into the series hybrid game and that's a good thing but a certain percentage are likely doing so due to all the FUD that exists out there about BEV's.

EREV right now would solve a ton of issues for people that need it and/or who don't have the best charging infrastructure. Scout is filling a void. It's a great intermediate strategy and who knows...maybe the production specs will surprise us. 150miles of battery range on an EREV is not enough for my needs.
